Cheerful Quest

"I... I'm sorry," I stammered, unsure what to say. What do you say when your best friend is crying and you've just made it worse? I slowly floated forward and hugged Marx, picking up his amulet and slipping it back in his hat, while wondering what to do. I could easily create an illusion to make it seem like he had his powers back, but when it was over he'd be even more sad.

He always said candy and sweets solved everything, and while I wasn't sure just how much it would help, I floated into the Lor's little kitchen and started making cookies. Marx spent the whole time sitting against the wall and staring at a ball of force I'd created that showed an image of Kirby and his friends.

“Are they getting my Energy Spheres?” I asked.

“Uh-huh,” Marx muttered, not seeming to care much. He was really unhappy... though, he probably didn't want my pity; he didn't want me to treat him like a little kid. He just didn't want to be forgotten. There was a delicate balance and it was hard to keep it.

I put the cookies in the oven and set the timer, humming a song I knew Marx liked. He quietly hummed along – I couldn't completely hear him, but I could tell he was doing it. I sang it louder, hoping it'd cheer Marx up.

Eventually, he smiled and ran over to me. Happy to see my friend feeling a little bit better, I gave him a short hug.

“Can I wear your cape?” Marx asked enthusiastically.

I just couldn't say no to that face. I pulled off my cape and scarf and wrapped them around Marx, while he stood on his tiptoes and said, “I am Magolor! I haves MAGIC!!”

If I wore pants, I would have laughed them off.

When the cookies were done, we ate them while we watched Kirby and his friends. They seemed so cheerful. Ugh – even when they were doing something as important as “rescuing” me, they didn't take it seriously. If Kirby didn't have a reputation for saving the world, I wouldn't have done this.

I watched Kirby deliver the final blow against a giant, seemingly sentient tree by dashing into it cloaked in flames. The tree dropped the oars of my ship. How had that tree gotten my oars? Grr...

Kirby and his friends celebrated by dancing. How childish could they even get? Also, how was Kirby's head not burning up? He was wearing a crown of fire!

Riding a shining yellow star, the four “heroes” went to the next area, which was a desert with lots of ruins. Hm. Maybe when Popstar belonged to me, I'd go and check them out. I might learn something, there might be some sort of mysterious magical runes. Maybe even a powerful new spell.

    Not that I wouldn't be all-powerful already.
